The date scale shows meridian and equinoctial lines
The capital letters alongside the date scale indicate the twelve months of the year.
The horizontal lines are provided with correction values to convert solar time to legal time (longitude correction plus equation of time) for the first day of each month, the 10th of January, March, April, August, September, October and November, and the 21th of every month except March and September.
The horizontal line at the northern end indicates the Summer Solstice and the line at the south side the Winter Solstice.
