Amerongen Castle

Armillary sphere (July 1984) Little flycatcher

Elegant armillary sphere in distinguished setting. Nice colors.
This garden has the only sculpture I have ever seen of an insect.

The castle

Tens of castles remain even today in the hilly region south-east of the city of Utrecht. Amerongen Castle was built by Count Floris V, but was reduced to ashes by French troops in 1673. Shortly afterwards it was rebuilt and is open to the public today.
