Analemmatic dials

Science Museum, Kalamazoo (Michigan, USA)

Modernistic dial

This dial is located in front of the Museum entrance. The NASS Registry calls it a 'modernistic' dial. What does that mean? Anyway, I like this design very much. Taut lines, sculptural presence, vandal-resistant, and taking advantage of the property that the hour points may be extended vertically. In addition, a functional piece of street furniture!

Date line Plaquette

The dial reads civil time (Eastern Time zone). Fortunately, the date line is not wrapped in an analemma. The plaquette, mounted on the left end of the wall, gives adequate instructions. Except that I don't see an 'N' on the wall. And what is 'daylight time'?
